Pregnancy Taboos: the start of a movement

Momentum is building. More and more people agree that pregnancy taboos must be broken. Our budding coalition is connecting people who share our determination to break the silence and share solutions.

Although not currently part of the coalition, the three groups below have broken taboos in their own right and we wanted to share their stories and initiatives with you.

Suzie Edward May

Suzie is the author of Arthritis, pregnancy and the path to parenthood. This inspiring and practical self-help guide takes women and men with chronic diseases, such as arthritis, on the journey from dreaming of having their own baby to flourishing with their new family. Suzie shares the intimate and honest story of living with rheumatoid arthritis and her experience becoming a parent.

Rheumatoid Patient Foundation

Patients groups are an invaluable source of information and support. The Rheumatoid Patient Foundation helps to advise people with rheumatoid arthritis on managing their disease. The Foundation has produced several brochures including The Treatment Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease, Pregnancy and Family Planning with Rheumatoid Disease

MotheRisk

Advice on morning sickness, what to eat and breastfeeding support mothers and prospective parents in making decisions about pregnancy and birth. MotheRisk aims to protect mothers and the unborn by enabling healthy choices. Their range of resources includes information on taking medicines during pregnancy including links to research on the safety/risk of taking certain drugs and vaccines.
